Fondation Grace Dart /
Grace Dart Foundation

The Grace Dart Foundation, a non-profit benefitting initiatives providing care for the elderly, desired to elevate their layouts for annual reporting / annual mailer materials, as well as other promotional materials to help with bringing in more donors/donations. While their logo itself needed only minimal refining, with a more fitting typeface, their other materials needed total redesigning to better display their credibility and connect with potential donors — a difficulty faced by non-profits everywhere, even if they've always done excellent work.

As with any magazine, the cover presents the critical shot at connecting to potential readers — even more critically when readers may be compelled to donate. Prior to redesigning it, the magazine was more of a booklet brandished with stock photos of elderly people that would not pique most people's interest. While utilizing stock photos is not inherently deficient, they should be utilized to relay how the company/brand is linked to bringing joy to the elderly — and letting potential readers know that they could be a part of that joy. Really, it should be a celebration that everybody is happy to be a part of.

Flying with a notion of 'celebration' and noticing the magazine did not prominently display the non-profit's branding, I decided to to make the non-profit's branding itself the artwork linking the company/branding to bringing joy to the elderly. I started with their branding/ brand colour scheme, highlighting a more celebratory gold for this cover. From there, I did some scripting to make the logotype elements into a set of windows exploding out to show what things are like when growing older while also growing more and more content with life. With that, the logo — and the foundation itself — are part of this pinwheel that now denotes not only the cycle of life; it now calls to the forefront of viewers' thinking the cycle of the foundation; how far it has come and how its achievements have come along in this past year. It reads as that celebratory crescendo to a good year of work.
