Playing with imaging, image mapping, and rendering processes, I decided to create a hyperrealist artwork by layering and re-layering imaging data that I collected from a statue of a deity handed down in my family for several generations. As I was born ‘n’ raised in Canada, my family elders desired for me to keep a part of our culture with me. They also added that the Hindi word, pūjā, refers to revering stories of different gods/goddesses — fitting, here, as the statuette is of the god of arts, letters, and creativity.
The film reveals more of this deity’s story, revealing that this character has 8 avatars. When exhibited, it is intended to be displayed on loop — which, in and of itself, could also be considered as a sort of pūjā.
